My personal guide to the state of Iran
I was in the British Museum yesterday with my Chinese ‘family’ looking at the Egyptian mummies. When we stopped for refreshments in the main court, I found myself in conversation with an Iranian family – a software engineer, his wife, and their daughter.
My Iranian friend was astonished to find a Westerner who had recently visited Iran and knew something about its politics. I hope that he didn’t think I was a spy (I gave him my business card) and I hope that he isn’t one (he spoke excellent English).
I told him about my travels in Iran [see my account here] and we spoke about an Iranian film which coincidentally I saw this week [my review here]. I didn’t tell him that I have read two books of Iranian history [my reviews here] – that really would have made him suspicious.
