You do know that most of those visits are bots.

Hi, Chris.
I know that some are bots but even some of those are doing me a favour by indexing my site which encourages future visits.
However, I’ve been running a web site for 12 years and seen steady and continual growth. While the absolute figure for the number of visits does not represent the number of human visitors, since the statistics are compiled on a consistent basis, it is a reasonable assumption that growth in stats means growth in visits.
Finally, I don’t know a better way of gauging web traffic. Do you?
