Who built Lord Ram’s bridge?
Lord Ram’s bridge links India with Sr Lanka and the name would suggest that it was built by Lord Ram, the Hindu God. Indeed this video clip shows the construction by the God and his monkey friends.
The trouble is that, in support of a project to develop a shipping canal in the area, Indian scientists and archaeologists say the Ram Setu (Lord Ram’s bridge) – or Adam’s Bridge as it is sometimes called – is a natural formation of sand and stones.
This conflict between religion and science has caused a major political storm in India as you can read here. This is another practical illustration of why truth matters.

Interesting essay on ‘why truth matters’. We come at this from differing slants – my intellectual base is decidedly poststructuralist. But I think we can safely say there’s some clear blue water between you and Jacques Derrida on this! Thanks Roger.
