A high-spending day

Today I spent £350,000. No, I didn’t buy a house – so let me explain ..,
I sit on the Council of Postwatch, the consumer body for postal services, and I am Chairman of the Council’s Research Committee. Since Postwatch is likely to be closed down in a year or so, this year’s research budget is being allocated to a couple of big legacy projects, one on the postal needs of small & medium enterprises and the other on the future of the postal universal service obligation.
Today we had presentations from the shortlisted research consultancies for the two projects and decided which companies should receive the work – the SME one costing £150,000 and the USO costing £200,000.
It’s not everyday that I get to influence such large sums of expenditure.
