Letters from the dead

This is the story of someone who has composed letters to his family and friends – deposited on a secure web site – only to be read on his death. I have a better idea: tell your family and friends now what you would want them to know from such letters.

The idea of leaving a letter is so that whoever you leave your letter to has something to help them in their grief.

After reading the above comments, I have visited leavealetter.com and i agree with Oxford Circus! It’s actually a really lovely idea, especially for people who find it hard to tell people how they feel – it’s like giving them a second chance before it’s too late. We have to remember that not everyone has the opportunity to tell friends or family – what if they were suffering from an illness? With all the things that are going on right now, you just never know when your time is up – so you wouldn’t necessarily have time to tell them. Let’s face it, we don’t always tell people everyday how we feel about them. I think the last thing i said to my sister today was ‘ see you on the weekend!’…I’d hate for that to be remembered!

Totally agree with Oxford Circus leavealetter.com is a great idea and I for one will be joining the site. Sometimes its difficult to tell even those closest to you how you feel. I lost my father very suddenly and so much went unsaid/unwritten – a letter from him would have helped me through this difficult time. Also a letter is a keepsake to support happy memories and can mean so much at times when you need comfort that words cannot fulfill

Perhaps we could try both approaches – telling relatives and friends now how we feel about them and how much we appreciate them and leaving a physical or an electronic note setting out our feelings more fully.

Nice idea but I think it is a bit expensive compared to this site. I would use this sort of site, looks very useful especially for the busier person.

I’ve looked at the site you have recommended but other than an email address there is no form of contact – who are these people – can we trust them with something so precious? No address, No telephone number – and no privacy because if they send the letter out they can read it? I would rather pay more and know that my letters are safe.
