Blinking hell!

A couple of days ago, I did a posting about how I might have become a Labour Member of Parliament but instead Austin Mitchell was chosen as the candidate for Grimsby. In researching that story, I came across Austin’s blog and I was stunned at the blinking text. Nobody – I mean nobody – does this any more. To show how easy it is though, here is some blinking text. Terrible, isn’t it?

So awful in fact that some browsers (Safari in my case; IE on Windows XP too) just doesn’t bother rendering the blinking. Probably not standards compliant, but I’m certainly not complaining!
I did have a poke about (because I’m sad like that, and am feeling a little ‘retro’), and it shows up in Firefox. You’re right regarding Austin’s weblog: It’s truly awful. I just hope that they’ve got a tag overrun or *something* to explain such atrocious styling! I fear that’s not the case: Something that bad takes effort! And it most certainly detracts from the content.
He just needs a few large flashing icons banners, perhaps a scrolling marquee banner and an clashing colour scheme, and it’d be like the 1990’s all over again!

Since I use Firefox as my browser, I see the blinking!

Yikes, that’s horrible! His page makes me feel kind of queasy.

That is truly awful — all unvisited links blink! It reminds me of Mr Titen’s More Than Math Page, which has some good content, but looks like the Las Vegas skyline!
(Epileptics beware the above link; though see this caveat: Epilepsy: Triggers: “Although assumed to be a common trigger for epilepsy, amongst both patients and the public, only around 5% of people with epilepsy are affected by flickering lights.”)

Me too I use Firefox, so I emailed his site.
Waiting to see if I get a response.
    Cheeky I am.

Let’s hope that you have a response, Mavis, and that he ‘switches off’ all that blinking. Do let us know.

No, Austin’s site did not reply, even though I sent a reminder.
Perhaps they do not know how to stop it?
