A short religious quiz
You might have seen my earlier posting about the results of a survey in the United States examining how much people knew – in most cases, very little – about various religious faiths including their own. There was a link from the posting to some of the questions posed.
Now, thanks to a recommendation from an American friend, I’d like to link to a piece in the “New York Times” which presents a 13-question quiz that I think you’ll find find particularly interesting.
Nicholas D. Kristof concludes:
“… religion is more complicated than it sometimes seems, and … we should be wary of rushing to inflammatory conclusions about any faith, especially based on cherry-picking texts. The most crucial element is perhaps not what is in our scriptures, but what is in our hearts.”
I agree with this, but I would also argue that all religious texts are of their time and should not be interpreted literally as applying to our modern world.
