Democracy British style

Currently not one member of Britain’s upper chamber, the House of Lords, is elected. In a series of up to 10 free votes, Members of Parliament in the lower chamber, the House of Commons, will vote tonight on whether they want a second chamber at all, and then on its possible composition – with options ranging from a wholly appointed to a fully elected house.

And it should be fully elected.
I despise the way that Labour (or so called Labour) take Lordships when offered. Talk about a sell out.

Good news: MPs have voted to reform the House of Lords by demanding all members are elected rather than appointed. There was a majority of 113 in favour of this proposal.
MPs, allowed more than one choice, also voted by a majority of 38 for 80% of members of a reformed second chamber being elected and the rest appointed.
The decisions will not pass into law but are expected to inform Government plans.

Now after a free vote lets see if Blair and Brown put their money where there mouths are.
As the Scotsman say ‘Ay hae me douts’.
