What happened on 9/11?

There was a good programme on BBC2 television this evening examining and debunking some of the conspiracy theories around the 9/11 attacks. Future programmes will examine the Oklahoma bomb and the deaths of Princess Diana and Dr David Kelly.
Of course, every country has those who believe conspiracy theories, but it seems to me that such theories are more commonplace and receive more serious support in the United States than in any other developed country. I really wonder whether it is a coincidence that religious belief and supprt for the paranormal are also more commonplace and stronger in the States than in any other developed country.
The common thread is a willingness to put belief before evidence because the belief is somehow more reasuring. I have written on my web site about the need to use reason and adduce evidence.
