What’s happening in Australia?
In June, a General Election in the UK led to the incumbent Labour Government losing its majority. Following the indecisive outcome of the poll, a Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition was formed in five days – the first coalition government for 70 years.
Two weeks ago, a Federal Election in Australia led to the incumbent Labor Government losing its majority. Two weeks later, the parties have still not managed to form a coalition government. When they do, it will be the first since the Second World War.
We now know that the Australian Labor Party could have done a bit better – possibly helping it to form a coalition government – if it was not for this extraordinary event.
