Our four islands holiday (9): more Bali
Next morning, we had a two-hour cookery class. First, we had “harvesting”, the collection of some ingredients from the establishment’s gardens. Then there was a lot of cutting and grinding, followed by cooking in a large heated bowl and a heated grill. Constantly we were adding all sorts of of herbs, spices, vegetables, salt and even sugar. Small offerings had to be made to the gods.
I confess that I let Tess take the lead. Apparently, in Balinese culture, men do the cooking only on two special days of the year, but a complicated dish is involved which takes a long time to compare. At the end of our class, we ate our efforts at an early lunch. We survived.
That afternoon, we were supposed to be taken on a village walk to Manggis, but there was some sort of administrative error and it never happened. Instead we spent time in the hotel’s infinity pool overlooking verdant green jungle.
