Co-operatives are not just supermarkets and funeral services – although these are amongst the most successful co-operatives found on the British high street. In fact, there are over 4,800 independent co-operatives in the UK. They work in all parts of the economy, from health care to housing, farms to football clubs, credit unions to community owned shops, pubs to public relations, wind farms to web design.
To promote the idea, there is a Co-operatives Fortnight. This is the first time that the co-operative sector has ever come together to run a national campaign to promote co-operation as a contribution to business, society and the environment. There are around 100 events up and down the country and you can check out their location here.
