Remembering Sir Keith Park

The Battle of Britain was a seminal time in the history of the island and a turning point in the Second World War. Some 3,000 pilots took to the skies with the Royal Air Force and one of them was my wife’s father the Czech Karel Kuttelwascher.

The leader of the RAF’s 11 Group at that time was the illustrious New Zealander Keith Park.  It is planned to have a statue of Park unveiled to mark the 70th anniversary of Battle of Britain Day on 15 September 2010.

Meanwhile there is a temprary (six month) display of the statue in London’s Trafalgar Square where I admired it on a recent visit. You can read more about the man and the statue here.
