My meeting with the British Member of Parliament for Kurdistan

I’m thinking of taking a holiday in Iraq. Not immediately but perhaps in the spring. Not to Baghdad but to the Kurdish north.

So today I was at the House of Commons to see my friend Gary Kent who is the Administrator of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on the Kurdistan Region in Iraq and has been to Iraq 12 times.

By chance, he was able to introduce me to the only Member of Parliament with a Kurdish background. Nadhim Zawawi, who is Conservative MP for Stratford-upon-Avon and Co-Chair of the All-Party Group, was born in Baghdad to Kurdish parents who fled Iraq during Saddam Hussein’s rise to power.
