My new short story
April 9th, 2011 by Roger Darlington
It’s three months since I’ve written a short story but, following encouragement from a friend (thanks, David M), I’ve composed one this weekend that I’ve had in development for four months. It’s my 27th short story and it’s entitled “A Shot In The Dark”. Check it out here. If you want to read some of […]

Out of the mouths of babes
April 5th, 2011 by Roger Darlington
I saw my darling granddaughter Catrin again today. I took her out in the pram for an hour and a half to give her mum a break and me some fun time. In fact, she slept most of the time but, when she was awake, I had some more wonderful smiles. She’s some way from […]

April 3rd, 2011 by Roger Darlington
In the UK, it’s Mothers Day and I want to send special good wishes to my daughter-in-law Emily who is celebrating her first Mothers Day. Eleven weeks ago, she gave birth to my first grandchild Catrin who is doing great and is an absolute delight. My own mother died 12 years ago and I still […]

My offer to become a London Ambassador (3)
April 1st, 2011 by Roger Darlington
As I have reported in a previous posting, I have applied to become a London Ambassador for the 2012 Olympic Games. Today I heard that I have been shortlisted for interview but the interview is not for another three months. A marathon rather than a sprint then.

Today I babysat my granddaughter Catrin for the second time in her 10-week life. I was with her for five hours and, while her parents were working, alone with her for three hours . I took her out in her pram and walked along London’s South Bank, stopping for me to have a coffee at […]

The course has coincided with an explosion of dissent in north Africa and the Middle East which has been called the Arab Awakening, […]

March for the Alternative
March 26th, 2011 by Roger Darlington
Today Vee and I went on the March For The Alternative in central London, an event organised by the Trades Union Congress to protest at the scale and speed of the cuts in public expenditure being implemented by the Coalition Government. It was a huge and noisy demonstration that was attended by an estimated 250,000. […]

Baby Catrin: progress report (6)
March 23rd, 2011 by Roger Darlington
The last time I saw my new granddaughter Catrin she was just over five weeks old. Since I’ve been away and her parents have been busy, I haven’t seen her again until today. She is now just over nine weeks old and a very bonny 13 lb. I changed a nappy and later helped with […]

How often do you make a personal phone call?
March 23rd, 2011 by Roger Darlington
Basically, outside of my family, I don’t make personal phone calls. I prefer to e-mail or text. It seems from this article that I’m not alone.

I came, I saw, IKEA
March 21st, 2011 by Roger Darlington
I must be the only man in Britain who has never been to IKEA in six decades – until now, that is. This morning, my wife dragged me off to the IKEA store on the North Circular Road in London because we need a bookcase for my newly redecorated study. I really didn’t like the […]
