But now I can’t get Sam Cooke out of my head.
‘It’s been a long time coming, but tonight, because of what we did on this day, in this election, at this defining moment, change has come to America.’ Obama
It’s been a long, a long time coming
But I know a change is gonna come, oh yes it will’ Sam Cooke

Ah – not a bad song to have in your head though, Philip! Written by Sam Cooke apparently at the instigation of Bobby Womack, after Sam related his outrage at Blowing In The Wind having been written by a white man; Womack invited him to write his own version. And the rest is revival tent history.
What I found particularly moving about Obama’s speech in Chicago was seeing the tears run down Jesse Jackson’s face. A past-presidential candidate, and with his own detractors, but who had shared Martin Luther King’s balcony at the Lorraine Motel and who was clearly deeply moved by another aspect of MLK’s dream becoming a reality in front of him.
    These are truly extraordinary times.
