The floods in Pakistan

This morning, I received the following e-mail from a friend in Pakistan.

“How are you? Hope you will be fine and enjoy well.. I am fine and my study is going well. As you know Pakistan is facing the worst ever disaster in its history in the form of floods…. The flood caused destruction at large scale which affected millions of people in the last few days. According to one estimate, the number of people affected by the flood is about 13.8 million. This number is more than the combined total of those hit by tsunami (Asia, 5 million, 2004), Kashmir quake (3 million, 2005) and Haiti quake (3 million, 2010).

I would kindly request you help the poor people inside Pakistani by highlighting this issue on your blog… maybe rich people inspire by it and give aid for the affected people….. The people are poor and they have lost everything. Their homes destroyed and they have been displaced………I hope that you will make call for their immediate help and assistance.”

I have already made a donation to the Disasters Emergency Committee and, if you wish to do so, please go here.

As usual we made a donation to the DEC. But, I just wonder what difference it makes in a substantial way. I seem to have been giving aid since the day I first went to Sunday School (methodist then – agnostic now) and I am still giving to the same places.

Does Aid ever make a real difference in the end?
