Introducing the Youth Parliament of Pakistan

Thanks to my web site, I receive e-mails from all around the world and I derive great pleasure from knowing that material on the site is of interest and assistance to people of many different nationalities and cultures. I like to think of myself as a citizen of the world and there is something on my site about almost every nation on the globe.

Today I received an e-mail from a member of the Youth Parliament of Pakistan, an impressive young man called Ahmad Noor.  I confess than I had never heard of this organisation before, but I think the idea of a Youth Parliament is a wonderful one, especially in countries (dare I say it, like Pakistan) where democratic values are fragile and threatened.

Some 45 years ago, I was School Captain at my secondary school in Manchester in the north of England and I founded a School Council with elected representatives from every class in the school. It is never to early to learn the principles of democratic discourse and decision-making
