What is your Myers-Briggs classification?

People sometimes ask me what classification I obtained from the Myers-Briggs personality test. The test assigns people to one of 16 personality types.
Now I recall doing the test on a training course many years ago but I’d long forgotten the result. However, this week I was sorting out some old papers to make some room in my study and came across my test outcome.
It seems that I am ENTJ. And what does this mean? Apparently it means:

“Frank, decisive, assume leadership readily. Quickly see illogical and inefficient procedures and policies, develop and implement comprehensive systems to solve organizational problems. Enjoy long-term planning and goal setting. Usually well informed, well read, enjoy expanding their knowledge and passing it on to others. Forceful in presenting their ideas.”

If you know me, do you think that this sounds like me?

I just spend some time answering 68 questions in this online survey – http://www.personalitytest.net/cgi-bin/q.pl – and also came out ENTJ. What were the odds?

  • Roger Darlington

Well, Eric, I suppose that statistically the odds are 1 in 16 but, since we’re such good friends, in practice somewhat higher than that. Perhaps we are psychic twins?

Quite an accurate description, Roger, although there’s one serious omission: “leaps tall buildings in a single bound”.
I tried the test Eric mentioned above, because I was curious to see if a mere 68-question diagnostic would give the same outcome as the one I did many years ago with about 200+ questions.
Yes, it did. What are the odds?

  • Andy R.

PS: I suppose the answer to both Eric’s question and my own is “1 in 16”.

    Hi Roger,
You definitely sound like an ENTJ to me.
I took the test in 2004 when I worked for a US broadband company (all the managers took it).
I came out as an INFJ. I recall it alarmed my boss! She was an ENTJ.

I too am an ENTJ! Someone told me that we make up only 1% of people?

  • Roger Darlington

Well, M, maybe there’s something special about readers of NightHawk!

I am a sucker for tests, so followed the link and then laughed my head off. ESFP (common as muck).
By the way M its 5% not 1% according to the link.

  • Andy R.

The Wikipedia page that Roger links to gives results of one sampling in USA (with N=3009) that gave ENTJ as 1.8% which is the second rarest, with INFJ at 1.5%
So it seems we may have a statistically significant event going on here, involving four ENTJs and one INFJ (moi). Can anyone do the maths?

  • Andy R.

Sorry, following a recount that should read “3 ENTJs and two INFJs” (Apologies to Russ.)

  • Mavis

Now how did I know the ‘common as muck’ would not count in the statistics!!!

  • Mavis

    OOPs missed the smiley off
    sorry
