My performance as Father Christmas at Catrin’s nursery
Today it was the Christmas Bazaar at my granddaughter’s nursery and guess who they persuaded to be Father Christmas. Most of the children were two or three years old and several found the old man so scary that they burst into tears.
But most of the children found Father Christmas a magical figure and loved having their photograph taken with him by very proud and loving parents. Father Christmas loved it too even if he couldn’t eat or drink for a couple of hours because of the costume.
Amazingly Catrin did not recognise Father Christmas. At first, she was shy with him, but she kept coming back to look at him and then she wanted to sit next to him all the time. Somehow there was a bond – or it might just have been that she wanted more presents.
Catrin is not sure about this strange man
so she needs mummy to be on hand
Catrin still does not know that this Father Christmas
is actually her granddad in full costume and make up

You must be the the thinnest Father Christmas on record. In America, our Santas (like our coffee cups) must be on the large size. But Laura said you looked cute in your whiskers. Merry Christmas.

I actually had a cushion stuffed under my jacket!

My theory, Roger, is that she did recognise you, but didn’t let on because she wants her parents to have a few more years of thinking she still believes in Father Christmas. 😉

Thanks, Trish.
It’s always such a joy for me to spend time with Catrin.

I think you looked a great Father Christmas and somewhat younger than your normal self. But be careful the polar ice caps are melting and you may have to abolish future Christmases.
