The 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettsburg

In the United States, it’s huge; elsewhere in the world, it may pass relatively unnoticed. Today is the 150th anniversary of the commencement of the three-day Battle of Gettysburg, a decisive conflict in the long and bloody American civil war.

A year ago, my wife and I visited the site of the battle with close American friends Mike and Laura Grace and you can read my account of the day here.

At the shop on the battle site, Mike bought me a novelisation of the battle entitled “The Killer Angels” and you can read my review of the book here.

The novel was main into a film called simply “Gettysburg” and you can read my review of the movie here.

Finally, one should have some appreciation of the civil war as a whole and I read a book on the subject which I purchased at Gettysburg and have reviewed here.
