A new US energy policy?
The USA consumes a quarter of the world’s oil supply but has just 3% of global oil reserves. It is therefore forced to import over 60% of the oil it needs and this dependency is growing. Most of the states from which it imports this oil are unstable, undemocratic and directly or indirectly funding Islamic fundamentalism. So, if America used less oil and switched to other sources of energy, not only would the global environment benefit so would global security. This is the central argument of the interesting movement “Set America Free”.

What a pity cold fusion came to naught.
The September 2006 edition of Scientific American appears to be largely devoted to the topic of energy.
