A review of “Wuthering Heights” (1)
My summer project in a quiet August was to read a couple of classic English novels. The first one was “A Tale Of Two Cities” which I’ve reviewed here.
I’ve now just finished “Wuthering Heights” by Emily Bronte – a very different work which I’ve reviewed here.

This is my favorite book, so I read your review with interest. There isn’t a great film version of the novel, but if you can track down the 1998 version starring Robert Cavanah and Orla Brady, it’s good: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0204744/. The actors are little too old to play Catherine and Heathcliff when they were young, but you can look for a young Matthew Macfadyen (Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice opposite Keira Knightley) as Hareton. I think it was his first movie. I happen to love this version. The music is gorgeous, too. You might be interested to know that another version is currently in production, too. It looks interesting: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1181614/

Thanks for the tips, Dana.
Why do you like the book so much?
The characters are fascinating but frequently callous and cruel.

Roger, I think I replied by email, but for the benefit of anyone else who happens by, the answer to your question is that I simply don’t know. I actually can’t stand the characters myself, and that’s usually a prerequisite for liking a book. I wish I could explain it, but the book just has something.
