Happy birthday UNESCO
UNESCO is the acronym for United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization. It was established 65 years ago today as a special agency within the United Nations that would work to further peace and security through educational, scientific and cultural collaboration among countries.
A UNESCO intergovernmental committee is meeting in Nairobi, Kenya from 15-19 November to evaluate 51 elements of intangible cultural heritage from 29 countries – including Ojkanke singing (Croatia), Chhau dance (India) and Flamenco (Spain) – for inclusion on the Urgent Safeguarding List and the Representative List.
