(1)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This week, we had <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/business-17021986\">the news<\/a> that the UK economy might lose its valued triple-A rating.\u00a0The statement from the Moody&#8217;s credit rating agency put the UK on &#8220;negative outlook&#8221;, implying a 30% chance of losing its AAA credit rating within 18 months. But who are these <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Credit_rating_agency\">credit rating agencies<\/a> that have such power and influence?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Big_Three_(credit_rating_agencies)\">Three companies<\/a> absolutely dominate the CRA market:\u00a0Moody&#8217;s and Standard &amp; Poor&#8217;s market share is around 40% each and Fitch&#8217;s market share is around 15%, so that the Big Three therefore hold some 95% of the market.<\/p>\n<p>There are a whole host of criticisms which can be made of the CRAs as explained <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Credit_rating_agency#Criticism\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This week, we had the news that the UK economy might lose its valued triple-A rating.\u00a0The statement from the Moody&#8217;s credit rating agency put the UK on &#8220;negative outlook&#8221;, implying a 30% chance of losing its AAA credit rating within 18 months.
