{"id":7488,"date":"2011-12-20T12:55:12","date_gmt":"2011-12-20T11:55:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/nighthawk\/?p=7488"},"modified":"2011-12-26T22:36:37","modified_gmt":"2011-12-26T21:36:37","slug":"farewell-to-our-special-cat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/nighthawk\/?p=7488","title":{"rendered":"Farewell to our special cat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In this year&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/ChristmasLetters.html#ChristmasLetter2011\">Christmas letter<\/a> sent out over the last couple of weeks, we wrote:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;In February, our cat Honey will be 20 years old &#8211; that&#8217;s 96 in human years! She is clearly feeling her age and is happiest when she is within stroking distance of Vee &#8211; very high maintenance.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Well, sadly, Honey didn&#8217;t make it to her 20th birthday or even to Christmas. She had become so frail that we decided that the kindest thing was to have her put to sleep.<\/p>\n<p>This morning, two women from our local vet came round to our home to perform the act. The young Israeli vet gave her the injection and Honey was out almost at once &#8211; eyes open and tongue out. Both Vee and I had tears welling in our eyes.<\/p>\n<p>We have buried her in her favourite flower bed covered up with the kitchen towel on which she used to rest on Vee&#8217;s knees each evening in front of the television.<\/p>\n<p>She has been wonderful companion.
