This is a village situated about 4 miles north of Winchester on a chalk ridge overlooking beautiful countryside. Its population has grown to just over 2000 people. We were expecting rain but, other than a little on Saturday evening, there was none and today was totally dry and very sunny.<br \/>\nWe drove out to a spot called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hamble.net\/Hamble_Interactive.htm\">Hamble-le-Rice<\/a> which is located at the junction of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fareham.gov.uk\/town\/whatshere\/localarea\/riverhamble.asp\">River Hamble<\/a> and Southampton Sound. Hamble is a tiny place with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hamble.net\/hamblehistory.htm\">a long history<\/a>. There were dozens and dozens of boats of different types and colours making for a wonderful vista.<br \/>\nWe walked though rain-sodden fields over to a point where we took a pink-coloured <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hamble.net\/ferry.htm\">ferry called &#8220;Emily&#8221;<\/a> over the a spot called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fareham.gov.uk\/town\/whatshere\/localarea\/warsash.asp\">Warsash<\/a>.<br \/>\n<center><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/Hamble2.jpg\"  border=3><br \/><font size=\"-2\">The pink ferry from Hamble to Warsash<\/font><\/center><br \/>\n<center><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/Hamble1.jpg\"  border=3><br \/><font size=\"-2\">On the ferry: Chris, Roger, Janine, Vee<\/font><\/center><\/p>\n<p>\nFrom here, we walked along a narrow spit of land out to the Universal Marine where we had lunch at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mamarine.com\/cafe-lulworth-southampton.shtml\">Cafe Lulworth<\/a>, a venue with excellent food and friendly service.<\/p>\n<p>\n<center><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/Hamble3.jpg\"  border=3><br \/><font size=\"-2\">Chris &#038; Janine at &#8220;Cafe Lulworth&#8221;<\/font><\/center><br \/>\n<center><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/Hamble4.jpg\"  border=3><br \/><font size=\"-2\">Roger&#8217;s dessert at &#8220;Cafe Lulwirth&#8221;<\/font><\/center><\/p>\n<p>\nAs we retraced our steps in late afternoon, the tide had gone out and the view was very different with shallow banks and old wrecks revealed and birds searching for grubs.<br \/>\nSuch a different experience from the bustle of London &#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This weekend, Vee and I visited my half-brother Chris and his partner Janine who live in South Wonston.
