﻿{"id":5445,"date":"2011-04-18T09:06:14","date_gmt":"2011-04-18T08:06:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/nighthawk\/?p=5445"},"modified":"2011-04-18T09:06:14","modified_gmt":"2011-04-18T08:06:14","slug":"yes-to-the-alternative-vote","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/nighthawk\/?p=5445","title":{"rendered":"Yes to the alternative vote"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/nighthawk\/?p=4670\">a previous posting<\/a>, I have declared my support for the introduction of the Alternative Vote (AV) electoral system for elections to the UK Parliament and my intention to vote &#8216;yes&#8217; in the referendum on 5 May.<\/p>\n<p>Today the think tank the Institute for Public Policy Research (ippr) &#8211; for whom my son works &#8211; has published a report setting out the case for AV and refuting the arguments against it.<\/p>\n<p>According to the report, the Alternative Vote system is better suited to the modern electorate  than First Past the Post because voters have become more \u2018promiscuous\u2019  and less tribal in the way they vote.
