No, I didn&#8217;t buy a house &#8211; so let me explain ..,<br \/>\nI sit on the Council of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.postwatch.co.uk\/\">Postwatch<\/a>, the consumer body for postal services, and I am Chairman of the Council&#8217;s Research Committee. Since Postwatch is likely to be closed down in a year or so, this year&#8217;s research budget is being allocated to a couple of big legacy projects, one on the postal needs of small &#038; medium enterprises and the other on the future of the postal universal service obligation.<br \/>\nToday we had presentations from the shortlisted research consultancies for the two projects and decided which companies should receive the work &#8211; the SME one costing \u00a3150,000 and the USO costing \u00a3200,000.<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s not everyday that I get to influence such large sums of expenditure.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today I spent \u00a3350,000.
