{"id":4032,"date":"2010-11-03T00:07:58","date_gmt":"2010-11-02T23:07:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/nighthawk\/?p=4032"},"modified":"2010-11-03T00:11:28","modified_gmt":"2010-11-02T23:11:28","slug":"what-does-the-tea-party-want","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/nighthawk\/?p=4032","title":{"rendered":"What does the Tea Party want?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The populist Right-wing movement in the United States called the Tea Party is named from the acronym for Taxed Enough Already and from the pre-revolutionary action in Boston harbour.\u00a0 It is certainly anti-Democrat and powerfully anti-Obama but, in many respects, it is also anti mainstream Republicanism.<\/p>\n<p>Although the movement is represented as a spontaneous grass-roots party with no central organisation and no leader, the intellectual powerhouse behind the movement in an organisation called Freedom Works which has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freedomworks.org\/\">a full agenda<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In brief, the movement wants a much smaller role for the federal government with more power for the 50 states &#8211; a battle some of us thought had been fought and lost in the American civil war.
