{"id":396,"date":"2007-03-16T07:47:31","date_gmt":"2007-03-16T06:47:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/wordpress\/?p=396"},"modified":"2012-11-13T15:50:58","modified_gmt":"2012-11-13T14:50:58","slug":"a-new-word-for-you-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/nighthawk\/?p=396","title":{"rendered":"A new word for you: Manichaeism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Earlier this week, I was watching <a href=\"http:\/\/www.comedycentral.com\/shows\/the_daily_show\/index.jhtml\">&#8220;The Daily Show With Jon Stewart&#8221;<\/a> when he interviewed <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zbigniew_Brzezinski\">Zbigniew Brzezinski<\/a>, the former National Security Adviser to President Jimmy Carter. When commenting on the failure of the current US President, Brzezinski accused George Bush of &#8220;Manichean paranoia&#8221;. I&#8217;m convinced that nobody in the audience &#8211; and even possibly Jon Stewart himself &#8211; had any idea what he was talking about.<br \/>\nIn fact, , Brzezinski was refering to Manichaeism which <a href=\"http:\/\/www.answers.com\/topic\/manichaeism\">Answer.com<\/a> defines as &#8220;A dualistic philosophy dividing the world between good and evil principles or regarding matter as intrinsically evil and mind as intrinsically good.&#8221; Clearly  Brzezinski had in mind Bush&#8217;s foreign policy approach based on the view that the US faces &#8220;an axis of evil&#8221; (Iraq, Iran and North Korea).<br \/>\nAn irony of the use of the term Manichaeism in the context of Iran is that this dualistic religion was found by a man called Mani in the 3rd century AD in Persia (present day Iran).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Earlier this week, I was watching &#8220;The Daily Show With Jon Stewart&#8221; when he interviewed Zbigniew Brzezinski, the former National Security Adviser to President Jimmy Carter.
