Since my family name is Darlington (although I&#8217;ve only visited the town once &#8211; in 1983), this historical event has always had a special resonance for me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The line was officially opened on 27 September 1825. Of course, that means that this autumn will see the 200th anniversary of the event. I&#8217;m sure that locally there will be some celebrations and it may even make the national and international news.
