{"id":2907,"date":"2010-06-28T16:48:43","date_gmt":"2010-06-28T15:48:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/nighthawk\/?p=2907"},"modified":"2010-06-28T16:49:30","modified_gmt":"2010-06-28T15:49:30","slug":"remembering-the-displaced-tamils","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/nighthawk\/?p=2907","title":{"rendered":"Remembering the displaced Tamils"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I live in north-west London where there are a lot of Tamils who came here to escape the bitter and long-running war between the Sri Lankan Government and the Tamil Tigers.\u00a0 That war is now over and the world&#8217;s media has largely forgotten the island&#8217;s problems, but I&#8217;m regularly reminded by conversations with local Tamils.<\/p>\n<p>The conflict lasted over 25 years and killed more than 70,000. The war ended in May 2009 and yet, over a year later,\u00a0 almost 80,000 Tamils remain displaced and living in poor conditions in camps.
