{"id":2806,"date":"2010-06-20T21:57:14","date_gmt":"2010-06-20T20:57:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/nighthawk\/?p=2806"},"modified":"2010-06-20T22:31:10","modified_gmt":"2010-06-20T21:31:10","slug":"a-weekend-out-of-the-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/nighthawk\/?p=2806","title":{"rendered":"A weekend out of the city"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s been an interesting and enjoyable weekend with pleasant weather.<\/p>\n<p>First, Vee and I drove down from London to Winchester in Hampshire for a reunion with two of the couples &#8211; John &amp; Sue and Geoff &amp; Gill &#8211; with whom we made <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/Iran.html\">our visit to Iran<\/a> last November. Our friends are very experienced travellers so we picked up some good ideas for future holidays. The venue for the reunion was the oddly-named but very welcoming restaurant <a href=\"http:\/\/theblackrat.co.uk\/\">&#8220;The Black Rat&#8221;<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>My half-brother Chris and his partner Janine live just outside Winchester in a village called South Wonston, so we spent the rest of the weekend with them. Today they took us to a place that I&#8217;ve never heard of before: Brownsea Island in Dorset. The island &#8211; in the middle of Poole Harbout &#8211; is owned by the National Trust, but the castle there has been leased to the John Lewis Partnership as a staff hotel.
