Indeed this sequence inspired a similar conflict on long steps in the final scenes of the 1987 film <em>&#8220;Untouchables&#8221;<\/em> directed by Brian De Palma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile I am reading a history of Ukraine: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/Borderland-Journey-Through-History-Ukraine\/dp\/1780229275\/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1O0919US2ETMW&amp;keywords=borderland+anna+reid&amp;qid=1647618318&amp;s=books&amp;sprefix=Borderland%2Cstripbooks%2C142&amp;sr=1-1\">\u201cBorderland\u201d by Anna Reid.<\/a> From this work, I learned that the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Potemkin_Stairs\">Odessa Steps<\/a> were constructed by a British civil engineer named <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John_Upton_(civil_engineer)\">John Upton <\/a>between 1837 and 1841.
