During an exasperated&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2021\/08\/23\/1030248514\/who-calls-for-a-delay-in-booster-shots-to-prioritize-under-vaccinated-countries\">intervention<\/a>&nbsp;earlier this week, the World Health Organization\u2019s director general, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, pointed out that of 4.8bn Covid vaccine doses delivered around the world to date,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2021-08-24\/who-tedros-adhanom-ghebreyesus-vaccine-booster-moratorium\/100401328\">around 75%<\/a>&nbsp;have gone to just 10 countries. The level of vaccine donations from richer countries, he added with some understatement, has been \u201creally disappointing\u201d. In Africa, where a third wave of the virus has been on the march since May, less than 2% of the continent\u2019s population has received a first dose.
