Before that I visited <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/countries.html\">a lot of countries.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;ve noticed that so many of the locations that I visit have either had a civil war or major conflict or do so shortly after my time there.  The latest example is Mekele, the capital city of the province of Tigray in Ethiopia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I visited this city on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/Ethiopia\">a tour of Ethiopia<\/a> a few years ago. Today <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2021\/jun\/28\/interim-government-of-tigray-flees-as-rebels-advance-on-mekelle\">it is reported<\/a> that rebel soldiers have retaken the city from government forces in what is now effectively a new civil war in the nation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When I was in Ethiopia, I thought that the country had so much promise.
