{"id":23969,"date":"2018-12-28T10:32:33","date_gmt":"2018-12-28T09:32:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/nighthawk\/?p=23969"},"modified":"2018-12-28T10:32:35","modified_gmt":"2018-12-28T09:32:35","slug":"binge-watching-the-television-adaptation-of-my-brilliant-friend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/nighthawk\/?p=23969","title":{"rendered":"Binge-watching the television adaptation of &#8220;My Brilliant Friend&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Two years ago, it took me almost three months, but I completed my summer\/autumn reading project: to read the four works and 1700 pages that make up the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Neapolitan_Novels\">\u2018Neapolitan Novels\u2019<\/a>, an acclaimed series by the Italian author Elena Ferrante.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a saga of the 60-year friendship between two girls from a poor neighbourhood of Naples after the Second World War: the narrator Elena Greco, known as Lenu, who becomes an accomplished writer and Raffaella Cerullo, known as Lila, whose never leaves Naples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first novel in the series is called&nbsp;<em>\u201cMy Brilliant Friend\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;and I reviewed it&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/fbooks.html#Ferrante1\">here<\/a>. The second novel is titled&nbsp;<em>\u201cThe Story Of A New Name\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;and you can read my review&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/fbooks.html#Ferrante2\">here<\/a>. The third novel is&nbsp;<em>\u201cThose Who Leave And Those Who Stay\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;and I reviewed it&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/fbooks.html#Ferrante3\">here<\/a>. The fourth and final novel in the chronicle is called&nbsp;<em>\u201cThe Story Of The Lost Child\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;and you\u2019ll find my review&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/fbooks.html#Ferrante4\">here<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the last couple of months, I&#8217;ve been recording a couple of television series so that I can binge-watch them over the Christmas\/New Year period and I&#8217;ve just started working my way through the eight episodes of the adaptation of <em>&#8220;My Brilliant Friend&#8221;.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a wonderful Italian production with all the dialogue in Neapolitan or Italian and it&#8217;s available in the USA on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hbo.com\/my-brilliant-friend\">HBO<\/a> and in the UK on Sky Atlantic.
