{"id":22745,"date":"2018-03-14T11:09:09","date_gmt":"2018-03-14T10:09:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/nighthawk\/?p=22745"},"modified":"2018-03-14T23:24:00","modified_gmt":"2018-03-14T22:24:00","slug":"the-death-of-stephen-hawking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/nighthawk\/?p=22745","title":{"rendered":"The death of Stephen Hawking"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I am saddened by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-43396008\">the news<\/a> of the death of the British scientist Stephen Hawking, although pleased that he managed to live such a long and productive life in spite of the diagnosis in his early 20s of a wasting disease that was expected to kill him in years.<\/p>\n<p>I once attended a lecture he gave in the Royal Albert Hall in London. The only scientist previously to fill this huge venue was Albert Einstein.<\/p>\n<p>I read several of his books: &#8220;A Brief History Of Time&#8221;, &#8220;The Universe In A Nutshell&#8221; [my review <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/science.html#Universe\">here<\/a>], and &#8220;A Briefer History Of Time&#8221; [my review <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/science.html#BHT\">here<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>Also I read a 1992 biography and saw the film &#8220;The Theory Of Everything&#8221; [my review <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/Films:T#TTOE\">here<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>The world has lost an exceptional scientist and a brave man.
