{"id":1957,"date":"2010-02-22T16:22:13","date_gmt":"2010-02-22T15:22:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/wordpress\/?p=1957"},"modified":"2010-02-22T16:27:12","modified_gmt":"2010-02-22T15:27:12","slug":"does-homeopathy-work-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/nighthawk\/?p=1957","title":{"rendered":"Does homeopathy work?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I first posed this question on this blog almost a year and a half ago and my posting attracted some interesting comments &#8211; all of which you can read <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/wordpress\/?p=1137\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Now today the House of Commons Select Committee on Science and Technology has published a<a href=\"http:\/\/www.publications.parliament.uk\/pa\/cm200910\/cmselect\/cmsctech\/45\/45.pdf\"> detailed report<\/a> on the provision of homeopathy on the National Health Service.<\/p>\n<p>The conclusions of the report are clear and include the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<blockquote>\n<li>&#8220;We conclude that the principle of like-cures-like is theoretically weak. It fails to provide a credible physiological mode of action for homeopathic products. We note that this is the settled view of medical science.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;We consider the notion that ultra-dilutions can maintain an imprint of substances previously dissolved in them to be scientifically implausible.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;In our view, the systematic reviews and meta-analyses conclusively demonstrate that homeopathic products perform no better than placebos.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Of\u00a0 course, the reason why homeopathic products work no better than placebos is that they work just like placebos because in fact they are placebos.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I first posed this question on this blog almost a year and a half ago and my posting attracted some interesting comments &#8211; all of which you can read here.
