{"id":18986,"date":"2016-01-16T12:40:10","date_gmt":"2016-01-16T11:40:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/nighthawk\/?p=18986"},"modified":"2016-01-18T12:38:42","modified_gmt":"2016-01-18T11:38:42","slug":"how-good-is-the-quality-of-your-water","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/nighthawk\/?p=18986","title":{"rendered":"How good is the quality of your water?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This week, in my capacity as Chair of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.southeastwater.co.uk\/about-us\/our-business\/customer-panel\">South East Water Customer Panel<\/a>, together with other Panel colleagues, I visited one of the company&#8217;s water treatment works at Bewl in Kent to learn more about how water is treated before it is of the right quality for customers.<\/p>\n<p>Many customers think that running a water company is simply a matter of collecting rainfall and distributing it through pipes but, as we learned and saw, water in the UK goes through a whole series of stages before it becomes amongst the highest quality water in the world.<\/p>\n<p>At Bewl, the stages are called aeration &amp; flocculation, flotation, ozonisation, filtration, granular activated carbon, disinfection, de-chlorination, and distribution. But then you may not have heard of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/world\/americas\/flint-michigan-100000-left-with-water-too-poisonous-to-drink-or-even-cook-with-a6815251.html\">the current situation in Flint, Michigan<\/a> in the richest nation on earth.
