{"id":17273,"date":"2015-05-10T10:03:17","date_gmt":"2015-05-10T09:03:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/nighthawk\/?p=17273"},"modified":"2015-05-15T10:08:41","modified_gmt":"2015-05-15T09:08:41","slug":"british-general-election-18-some-interesting-facts-and-figures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/nighthawk\/?p=17273","title":{"rendered":"British general election (18): some interesting facts and figures"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li>The new Parliament has 182 new members, including 74 new Conservative, 53 new Labour and 50 new Scottish National MPs.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">The new Parliament will see a record number of female representatives, with 191 women (up from 143) which represents 29% (up from 22%).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">The new Parliament will see a record number of ethnic representatives, with 41 from an ethnic minority (up from 27) which represents 6% (up from 4%).<\/span><\/li>\n<li>It is known that 32 of the newly elected MPs are lesbian, gay or bisexual.<\/li>\n<li>It is estimated that a third of the newly elected MPs and more than half of Conservative MPs went to private schools compared to 7% of the population.<\/li>\n<li>Of the newly elected MPs who went to university, 31% went to Oxford or Cambridge.<\/li>\n<li>The youngest MP since 1667 is 20 year old Mhairi Black who won the Paisley &amp; Renfrewshire South seat for the SNP.<\/li>\n<li>The largest swing was 39% which was from Labour to SNP in Glasgow North East where the winning candidate was Anne McLaughlin.<\/li>\n<li>In my own constituency of Brent North, the Labour Party now has a larger majority (10,834) than the Conservatives had when Labour took the seat from them in 1997 (10,131). \u00a0This is Labour\u2019s largest ever majority in Brent North with a swing of over 7% to Labour.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">In Milton Keynes North, my daughter-in-law Emily Darlington stood as the Labour candidate. She increased Labour&#8217;s vote share by more than twice the national average, adding some 3,000 votes to the Labour tally and keeping the Conservative MP&#8217;s majority at under 10,000.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>This General Election was officially the least proportional result in British history.
