However, I managed to travel into central London where amazingly there was no snow.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I went into the City Lit, where I did my short story writing course last term, and delivered a copy of my story <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/Story12.html\">&#8220;An African Adventure&#8221;<\/a> for a competition to publish selected stories in the college magazine in the early summer.\n<li> I went to the British Film Institute, which has the largest screen in the country, to see a 3D IMAX version of the James Cameron movie &#8220;Avatar&#8221; [my review <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/FilmsA-B.html#Avatar\">here<\/a>].\n<li>Finally I went to the House of Commons for a reception to mark the merger of two trade unions: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.connectuk.org\/connect_public\/home.asp\">Connect<\/a> &#8211; for whom I do some consultancy work &#8211; and Prospect.<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On the outskirts of London where I live, we had a heavy downfall of snow overnight, much of the snow is still in place, and now the problem is freezing ice.
