{"id":16412,"date":"2014-12-29T11:58:41","date_gmt":"2014-12-29T10:58:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/nighthawk\/?p=16412"},"modified":"2014-12-29T11:58:41","modified_gmt":"2014-12-29T10:58:41","slug":"where-did-the-great-world-religions-come-from","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/nighthawk\/?p=16412","title":{"rendered":"Where did the great world religions come from?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over Christmas, I bought &#8220;The Times Concise History Of The World&#8221; which is a wonderful book to browse, full of colour maps and fascinating facts.<\/p>\n<p>It is interesting &#8211; and no coincidence &#8211; that the great religions of humankind originated in the same part of the world and a number of them were either established or radically reformulated around the same time.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All the great world religions originated in Asia and three of them &#8211; Judaism, Christianity and Islam &#8211; developed in the same small region.<\/li>\n<li>The outstanding prophets and reformers of Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Confucianism and\u00a0Taoism all lived in the 6th century.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It seems that rising empires needed more universal creeds than local deities could provide which underlines the central fact that &#8211; in my view &#8211; religion is man-made (I use the gender deliberately) rather than God-made.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over Christmas, I bought &#8220;The Times Concise History Of The World&#8221; which is a wonderful book to browse, full of colour maps and fascinating facts.
