Just who was the first Jew? Like so much to do with the Jewish story, the answer is not straightforward.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chabad.org\/library\/article_cdo\/aid\/652019\/jewish\/Who-is-considered-the-first-Jew-and-why.htm\">this source<\/a>, the answer is simple. The first Jew was Abraham.<\/p>\n<p>But according to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.keyway.ca\/htm2005\/20050219.htm\">this source<\/a>,\u00a0Abraham was\u00a0<i>not<\/i>\u00a0a Jew. Nor was his son Isaac. Nor was Isaac&#8217;s son Jacob. Moses and Aaron were also\u00a0<i>not<\/i>\u00a0Jews. This source insists that the first Jews were the children of Jacob&#8217;s son Judah.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">A <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gotquestions.org\/first-Jew.html\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">third source<\/span><\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\"> states:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8216;If by \u201cJew\u201d we mean \u201cHebrew,\u201d Abraham was the first Jew. If by \u201cJew\u201d we mean \u201cof the tribe of Judah,\u201d Judah was the first Jew. If by \u201cJew\u201d we mean \u201cthe first person in the Bible to be referred to as a Jew,\u201d the nameless Jews in 2 Kings chapters 16\u201425 were the first Jews.
