{"id":1372,"date":"2009-04-04T08:02:54","date_gmt":"2009-04-04T07:02:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/wordpress\/?p=1372"},"modified":"2011-05-22T11:47:37","modified_gmt":"2011-05-22T10:47:37","slug":"the-return-of-the-saviour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/nighthawk\/?p=1372","title":{"rendered":"The return of the saviour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I am struck by the fact that so many religions and so many cultures exhibit the same message of hope: that, at some indeterminate point in the future &#8211; typically when we are most in need of rescue or salvation &#8211; God or his representative or some heroic figure from history will return to save us from great danger or great evil.<\/p>\n<p>In Christian theology, there is the notion of the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Second_Coming\">Second Coming<\/a> of Jesus Christ with some sects convinced that this occurrence is both predictable and imminent. In the Shia branch of Islam, there is the notion of the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Major_Occultation\">Major Occultation<\/a> of the twelfth Imam, Muhammad al-Mahdi. Both Christians and Muslims are still waiting.<\/p>\n<p>I visit the Czech Republic quite often and have some familiarity with its history.
