In this case, the word is intended to be an acronym for <strong>M<\/strong>ars <strong>A<\/strong>tmosphere and <strong>V<\/strong>olatile <strong>E<\/strong>volutio<strong>n <\/strong>but the choice of words was clearly intended to evoke the notion of the spacecraft as a trusted expert.<\/p>\n<p>I first came across the term maven seven years ago when it was suggested that, in a sense, it applied to me &#8211; see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/nighthawk\/?p=329\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A maven\u00a0is a trusted\u00a0expert\u00a0in a particular field who seeks to pass knowledge on to others.
