While not having the scale and grandeur of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.royalacademy.org.uk\/exhibitions\/byzantium\/\">&#8220;Byzantium&#8221;<\/a> exhibition at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.royalacademy.org.uk\/\">Royal Academy<\/a> [see my comment <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/nighthawk\/2008\/12\/byzantium_3301453.html\">here<\/a>]. it is still an interesting and impressive exhibition as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/artanddesign\/2008\/nov\/16\/babylon-british-museum-review\">this review<\/a> from the &#8220;Observer&#8221; newspaper makes clear.<br \/>\nHowever, if one wants to see the true glory of Babylon, one has to visit <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pergamon_Museum\">the Pergamon Museum<\/a> in Berlin (which I have) where one can see a reconstruction of the magnificent <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ishtar_Gate\">Ishtar Gate<\/a>. The actual remains of Babylon south of Baghdad are more disappointing than ever since American and Polish troops used the site as a base in the current occupation and did terrible harm to archeological site.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This week, my wife and I visited the British Museum in central London to see the exhibition &#8220;Babylon: Myth And Reality&#8221;.
