{"id":1244,"date":"2008-12-14T13:43:31","date_gmt":"2008-12-14T12:43:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/wordpress\/?p=1244"},"modified":"2008-12-14T13:43:31","modified_gmt":"2008-12-14T12:43:31","slug":"leonard-cohens-hallelujah","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.rogerdarlington.me.uk\/nighthawk\/?p=1244","title":{"rendered":"Leonard Cohen&#8217;s &#8220;Hallelujah&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I don&#8217;t watch the television series &#8220;The X Factor&#8221;, but I know from <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/1\/hi\/entertainment\/7782054.stm\">the news<\/a> that this year&#8217;s competition was won by  Alexandra Burke with a rendition of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hallelujah_(Leonard_Cohen_song)\">Leonard Cohen&#8217;s &#8220;Hallelujah&#8221;<\/a>.<br \/>\nNow this is a song I love. Although first recorded in 1984, I first came across it only when it was used in an episode of my favourite television series &#8220;The West Wing&#8221;. This version by Jeff Buckley occurs in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.westwingepguide.com\/S3\/Episodes\/67_PC.html\">the final episode of series three<\/a>. Later I really enjoyed the version by K.D. Lang on her CD <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/Hymns-49th-Parallel-K-D-Lang\/dp\/B000267J10\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&#038;s=music&#038;qid=1229263468&#038;sr=8-1\">&#8220;Hymns Of The 49th Parallel&#8221;<\/a>.<br \/>\nFor all my admiration of &#8220;Hallelujah&#8221;, I&#8217;m not at all sure that I fully understand <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sing365.com\/music\/lyric.nsf\/SongUnid\/D0720188D8C780FF4825688400270D36\">the lyrics<\/a>.
